currently {december}

If you’re like me and have already been doing Christmas shopping and decorating, it’s not too much of a surprise that it’s already December. I usually like to let Thanksgiving have it’s space and not let Christmas overtake November too early, but like many of you I’ve been ready for some Christmas cheer.

As always I’m joining with Anne for her Currently linkup and sharing a few favorites from last month as well.

{baking} all the things. I made Pumpkin Pie and Salted Chocolate Pecan Pie Bars for Thanksgiving (yes, just for our family of four, what?) and some sausage cheddar biscuits for breakfast. This time of year is made for baking.

{decorating} for Christmas. I began decorating the weekend before Thanksgiving, although we waited on the tree since we get a real one and don’t want it to dry out. This year I’m also trying to figure out a good way to display Christmas cards and the kids’ past photos with Santa (any ideas?).

{gifting} photo-themed gifts for grandparents. Grandparents always request photos of the kids for Christmas, so I always know what to get for at least part of their Christmas gifts each year. I also may be going overboard on the kids’ gifts this year–I’ve found some excellent sales and they’re just way too fun to shop for. (Plus, of all the years to go overboard, I think Corona-Christmas might be one.)

{hoping} to see family at Christmas. We canceled our plans to travel to see Aaron’s family for Thanksgiving, and turned down an invitation to see my family as well, because of rising Covid cases in our area. If it’s not safe, we’ll have to do the same for Christmas, but if there’s any way possible to see family safely for Christmas we will. I miss them.

{sending} Christmas cards. Last year I opted out of cards–I didn’t plan well and the thought of it stressed me out so I just skipped holiday cards. This year I planned ahead and my cards are stuffed, sealed, and ready to deliver as soon as I get stamps!

November Favorites

  • book: Transcendent Kingdom by Yaa Gyasi. I finished this at the beginning of November and loved it so much. Read my review on this reading round-up post.
  • children’s book: I Dissent by Debbie Levy. We loved this book about Ruth Bader Ginsburg–it was factual, interesting, and beautifully illustrated.
  • outfit: The simple sweater and boots look that I wore for my Thanksgiving outfit ideas post was my favorite from the month.
  • recipe: Baked Chicken Parmesan Meatballs. I made these with ground turkey and they were so good! Instead of the garlicky pasta I just made regular marinara sauce to make it more kid-friendly.
  • purchase: gray and white striped tee from Old Navy. I also bought the digital Advent study from She Reads Truth but (at the time I’m writing this) haven’t started it yet.
  • podcast: Bad on Paper. This one is still new to me and I’ve only listened to one episode but I can tell it’s one I will enjoy.

I’d love to hear a few things you’re currently up to or favorites from the past month!
