We may not be going as many places as we usually do this time of year, but it still feels so busy. When I start to feel overwhelmed by my to-do list, I know it’s a good time to sit down and get organized.
I do this by making another list. (Anyone else?) As September comes to an end, I’m focusing on my goals for the end of the year and reflecting on a few wins for the past few months.
{third quarter wins}
- Date night out for our 14-year anniversary in July. We eat out rarely these days, but we cautiously ventured out for this occasion.
- Jona turned 7! We had a small celebration at home, and Jona had a great time and enjoyed some new Lego sets.
- Jona went back to school and we made it through three weeks of hybrid learning. I helped with distance learning three days a week while Jona attended in-person two days. It was a challenge sometimes (as I am also working full time from home), but we made it! Now they are back in person 5 days a week, and I’m crossing my fingers it lasts!
- Finished Me and White Supremacy. I read and completed the journaling prompts for this–what an impactful book. I will talk about it more in my book post for October, but I definitely recommend it.
- Joined an online book club with Bliss Books and Wine. It’s been so fun getting to be a part of such a great community while also supporting their store.
- Saw family we hadn’t seen since February. We had a great time getting together with Aaron’s side of the family, and Jona and Violet were thrilled to see their cousins.
- Took a weekend road trip. We rented a house at a lake with a few close friends and spent the weekend relaxing and enjoying the gorgeous weather.
{end-of-year goals}
- Prioritize our house-related spending. We have so many projects that need to be done at home; Aaron and I need to revisit our list and re-prioritize what we need to focus on next.
- Find a way to volunteer for the upcoming election. I’m not sure what I will be able to do but I want to do something. This election is so important.
- Celebrate Violet’s birthday. We’ll probably have a small celebration at home like we did for Jona, but my girl is turning 4 in October!
- If the weather is nice, take a walk! I was so good about doing this in the spring but when it got hot this summer I stopped finding the time in my day to walk. I want to get back into that healthy habit.
- Prepare ahead for winter. I’m terrible about waiting until the last minute to buy coats and gloves, and then being stuck mid-December cold-handed and desperate.
- Find ways to savor the season. Even with the pandemic I know this time of year will get busy, but I want to remember to savor each part of fall and each holiday that comes, even Halloween (which I just don’t love–forgive me).
What are your goals for the end of the year? And I’d love to hear some of your recent wins too!
