5 pairs of shoes you need for fall and winter

I’m kind of a shoe addict. Somehow I can talk myself into a new pair of shoes in the time it takes Target to have another sale.

For me to be writing about the 5 pairs of shoes you need for fall seems a bit hypocritical–trust me, I own and wear a few more than 5 pairs. But I feel like these are the 5 trusty basics that are the shoe building blocks of a fall wardrobe, and in this case, I think the word “need” does apply. (Unlike, one could argue, the last couple pairs I purchased.)

Ankle boots go with just about anything and come in so many different styles. I love this brown pair because I think they go well with the rich colors of fall. I also have a neutral taupe pair that I wear constantly as well.

{over-the-knee or knee-high boots}

Of course, I find myself “needing” both, but I think having one pair of tall boots will serve you well. I love how they can take the place of tights with a longer dress, but look just as great over a pair of skinny jeans.

{rain or snow boots}

This depends on your weather; if you live in a milder climate you can get by with just rain boots, but if you’re somewhere with a lot of snow, I’m sure you already have a pair of water-resistant snow boots that get a lot of use in the winter. It changes with the year around here–some years I don’t need to get my snow boots out, some years I wear them frequently.

{mules or flats}

I think you could put heels or wedges in this category too, depending on your style and wardrobe needs for work. This is the category I go a bit crazy in, and I doubt many women have just one pair of flats or heels in their wardrobe. On days when the weather is mild, these are my go-to shoes.

{sneakers}

Pre-coronavirus, I kept my sneaker collection to a casual pair and a more athletic pair, and a pair of slip-on sneakers too if you count those. Since I’ve been spending a lot more time at home these days, only leaving to do school drop-off, go to the store, or take a walk around my neighborhood, sneakers have become a part of my regular wardrobe rotation. I think it depends on your lifestyle, but sneakers can work with so many different looks. My newest favorite is the wedge-style pair that feels a tiny bit more dressed up.

Are there any shoes you would add to my list? What are your go-to shoes these days?
