what I do all day {a peek inside my work life}

I had planned another Day in the Life post, but looking at all the photos in my sad little temporary home office was a yawn-fest. I mean, the most exciting thing I did that day was go to the dentist. Mostly what I do all day these days is work, and since I’m not going to share screenshot after screenshot of my laptop, a photo summary of my day isn’t the greatest idea.

Instead, I took inspiration from a post at In Residence that I bookmarked that’s a peek inside Anne’s work life. Since I find learning about people’s day jobs endlessly fascinating, I thought it might be fun to share a version of my own.

{how I keep organized}

  • OneNote digital notebook – Funny story, I used to organize my work life in a spiral-bound agenda, but I accidentally left it in the office on March 13 and I haven’t seen it since. However, I have grown to love this digital format for organizing weekly tasks, meeting notes, and project planning.
  • Outlook calendar – I work for a pretty large corporation, but I imagine it’s true for a lot of corporate jobs… so. many. meetings.
  • Bullet journal – this is for my personal and mom life. I use a weekly spread to plan out the week, and also list out quarterly “big picture” tasks and events.
  • Goal planner – This year I’m using the PowerSheets Planner to help me stay on top of goals. See this post for more about how I use my planner.
  • Google calendar – I have a calendar for Shea Lennon where I plan out my posts, and I also share a calendar with Aaron for family appointments and events.

{current projects}

  • Social media planning – I handle the B2C component of our social media marketing, so I create posts for our Facebook and Instagram pages.
  • Blog posts – I also write for our participant (consumer)-facing blog. Because we are in the healthcare industry, those articles are mainly about health and well-being.
  • Renaming – We recently renamed our Business Unit, so I am making sure all materials have the correct logo and updated verbiage.
  • Custom marketing for clients – I work with clients who want customized materials and create communication plans for them, and collaborate with our designer to create custom-branded materials.
  • Personal blog and social media – I try to write my blog posts on the weekends, so I can focus on comments, linkups, and promoting my posts during the week. I also try to roughly plan out what I’ll share on Instagram, although that is still a work in process.
  • Newsletter – I recently created a newsletter for my blog, so I work on that on weekends too. In it I include an outfit idea, a recipe we enjoyed, a book recommendation, and recent blog posts. (I’d love for you to sign up – at the bottom of this post!)

{recently finished}

  • Plan for a social media campaign around wearing masks – I’m still waiting on Corporate review and approval, but I think this will be both important and fun.
  • Updated process for providing basic marketing materials to clients – This was one of my big projects for this year (that got slightly derailed with COVID) but I’m finally getting to the training stage, so almost done and ready to implement!
  • Updated social media strategy for the second half of 2020
  • Goals discussion and mid-year review – This is a very corporate-y aspect of my job that I actually really like.

{upcoming projects}

  • New process implementation – Working with our trainers to implement the new marketing process I mentioned
  • Upcoming social media posts – Working with our graphic designer to create graphics and videos for upcoming social media posts and fall campaigns
  • Writing blog posts – with other projects I’ve fallen behind on creating (work) blog content, and I need to get caught up.
  • Personal blog planning – It’s time to start thinking about fall!
  • Chore and “getting ready” charts for the kids – I think a little chart will make Violet less inclined to fight in the mornings, and I’m tired of reminding Jona to pick up his dang Legos.

I hope you enjoyed the peek into my work and blog life. I’d love to hear more about what you do at your job and how you stay organized!
