I scheduled this post a while ago, but I had to come back and edit because some things are too important to ignore. Our country is broken. But I see all around me people who are unwilling to let it stay that way. I’m going to try my best to listen, learn, and use the privilege I have to work towards being anti-racist, and to teach my children to do the same.

It’s the beginning of the month, so I’m sharing a few things I’m currently up to for Anne’s linkup, along with my regular round-up of highlights.

The library reopened (for pick-up only)! Definite highlight.

{feeling} inspired to take action. Yesterday I read so many posts on Instagram that gave me ideas for putting my money where my mouth is: books to teach my kids about race and equality (I’ve been a longtime fan of @hereweeread and she always has fantastic recommendations), books I want to read (including new-to-me Me and White Supremacy which I just downloaded), and Black-owned businesses to support.

{wearing} jeans. I know people joke about wearing jeans during quarantine, but I love jeans and wear them just about every day. Also, now that I have places to go… you know, the two seconds I’m out of the car each day picking up Violet, I have an excuse to get dressed in real clothes. (That wish list I made feels pretty justified now… )

{buying} summer clothes for everyone. Jona tried on some shorts from last summer and they looked like hot pants, so new shorts for him are on their way, and Violet keeps growing too. Also, I may have bought both the striped top and tennis shoes (the white pair was on sale!) from my wish list.

{craving} brunch out. Breakfast food is my favorite, and it tastes even better when someone else makes it. Getting takeout has mostly scratched the dining-out itch, but I can’t wait to go out for brunch again eventually.

{discussing} our home to-do list. We have so many home projects that need to be done, but that silly budget requires that we not do all of them at once. Our front steps are badly in need of repair, but the inside has so many needs as well. Decisions, decisions.

{reading} Stay. I just finished this book about a fourteen-year-old boy who is driven by his need to help others, and who struggles with feeling responsible for other people’s problems. I didn’t always find his maturity believable, but overall I thought this was a great story about friendship and loyalty.

{reading aloud} The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. A beloved china rabbit gets separated from the little girl who owns him, and this is the story of the adventures he has and the way his journey changes his heart.

What have been some of your highlights lately?
