Weekly Highlights {19}

The most exciting thing to happen last week was finding a guinea pig that randomly wandered into our yard. There’s something you don’t see every day. The kids named him Carrot and spent a lot of time following him around our yard or trying to spot him somewhere else. It ended up belonging to our backyard neighbors, so I’m glad that mystery is solved.

Here are a few other recent highlights.

Carrot, our neighbor’s guinea pig – who is likely not named Carrot at all.

{eating}

  • Banana Bread – I know, nothing new here. But I tried this recipe from Dinner, A Love story, and if you’re looking for banana bread that resembles cake, try this one. Yum.
  • Enchiladas – I love this super easy recipe from The Kitchn. The recipe calls for chicken, but we made them with ground beef last week and they were also delicious that way.

{reading}

  • How to Walk Away – I talked about this one on Monday’s post, but it was the perfect thing to read after Prince of Tides, because unlike that one, it went quickly and felt hopeful.
  • Horrible Bear! – I remember reading this to Jona when he was little, so when I saw it on Book Outlet I picked it up to read Violet. I love this sweet story.

{loving}

  • Violet quote – Out of nowhere, Violet brought up her last doctor check-up (back in October of last year) and how she didn’t cry at all. She said, “I was really brave. Dr. Andrews shot me and I didn’t even cry!” I could totally see how in her mind, that’s how you would say “gave me a shot,” and it cracked me up.
  • A picnic lunch – We ate lunch at the park across the street from us last week, and it was so nice to change up our scene a little bit and eat outside.

What have been some of your highlights lately?
