weekly highlights {18} + currently

We’re at week one million of staying in, and this past week was my first week not working. Is it terrible that this has been the best week so far? I love my job and hope I’m able to go back to it soon, but I didn’t realize how stressful working during this pandemic has been. This break has been amazing for my mental health, if not my bank account.

Here are a few highlights from this past week, as well as a few things we’re currently up to. For the first time in a long time, I’m going to join Anne’s monthly linkup to share.

Sidewalk chalk!

{making}

  • crafts with the kids – I am living my best crafting life right now. We made butterflies out of coffee filters, painted flowers for a little construction paper collage, did a tissue paper “water color” activity, and did lots of coloring and sticker pages.

{missing}

  • in-person conversations with friends and family – I miss sitting in Abby’s backyard having a glass of wine while our kids jump on their trampoline. I miss eating dinner at my dad and Gail’s. I miss meeting my friend Becky to discuss the latest book we read. Social distancing has made this introvert miss socializing.

{learning}

  • new at-home workouts – I am still committed to my daily Yoga with Adriene, but I’ve tried out a few other workouts as well. A barre class kicked my butt (and thighs, whew!) and a hip hop class made me glad I was in the privacy of my own home–I’m sure I looked ridiculous.

{loving}

  • sticker books and hidden pictures – These are Violet’s JAM right now, and I love them because they keep her occupied for longer than a few minutes.

{reading}

  • The Prince of Tides – I finally finished this looong book last week and I still haven’t decided how I feel about it. It definitely checks my “dysfunctional family story” box, but the narrator of the story really irritated me in ways I couldn’t get over.
  • Shark Lady – I found this nonfiction picture book to read to the kids on the Kindle and they’ve really loved it.

{eating}

  • Mexican Chocolate Icebox Cookies – These were different than my usual cookie go-to, and also my first experience with slice-and-bake style icebox cookies. I loved the subtle spice, and surprisingly so did Jona and Violet.

What have been some of your highlights lately?
