Currently: October

This time last year I was impatiently awaiting the arrival of Violet, and this year I can hardly believe she’s almost 1. This year really has flown by. October is a month that’s bursting at the seams, with lots of birthdays, fall events, and crazy work schedules. With everything that’s going on, I hope to make space for some calm, quiet moments in the midst of all the fun (and chaos).

As always, I’m linking with Anne and her co-host this month, Dana, to share what I’m currently up to.

{styling} dressy tees. As I shared in my post on Monday, a dressy tee walks the perfect line between style and comfort. I have a pretty casual lifestyle, but tee shirts like this make me feel put-together even in the most basic jeans and tee combo.

{saving} money at Aldi. I’ve mentioned it before but I’ve become quite the Aldi fanatic. The one near me moved to a newer, bigger location, and despite being a little farther away it’s still well worth the trip. A few Aldi favorites lately are granola with pumpkin seeds, dark chocolate bars, goat cheese, and pasta.

{searching} for (secondhand) fall shoes and boots. Since August I’ve been on a mission to only shop used for clothes, shoes, and accessories. I’ve had lots of luck finding clothes on ThredUp, but my fall shoe wardrobe is in a pretty sad state and so far I’m striking out. I used to go to Clothes Mentor regularly, but since moving to our current house I haven’t been. I think I’ll have to plan a trip back there soon.

{picking} pumpkins. On Friday I get to join Jona and his preschool class for a field trip to the pumpkin patch. They’re going to the same patch we’ve visited the last couple of years, and it’s such a fun one. I can’t wait!

{making} birthday plans. Violet turns one on the 19th, and despite a first birthday being a big deal, I’ve finally faced the facts that birthday parties just aren’t my jam. So, inspired by Anne’s recent post on Paperless Post invitations I decided to go that route and I’m incredibly happy I did. No stamps, no mailing, no getting prints from a digital file. Sanity, saved. If email invites are cardinal rule number one for stress-free party planning, rule number two is having the party anywhere but at home. So thank you, park across the street, for allowing me to focus more on the party and less on making sure blocks are picked up and floors are mopped. Finally, since Jona’s sundae party was a smashing success we’re going to do that again for Miss Violet (with the addition of cupcakes so she can have a good time making a mess). I’ll hit up Aldi for some ice cream and toppings and we’ll call it good!

What are you up to so far this fall?
