Currently: December

It hardly seems possible that it’s December already and that this year is nearly over. I’m always a little conflicted this time of year; part of me wants to go out and do all the holiday things, but at the same time staying cozied up inside sounds appealing too. Here’s hoping this month brings a little of both!

I’m linking up with Anne and Jenna to share what I’m currently

{wishing} for a slow-down.  Life has been especially busy lately, and I’d like time to slow down a bit so I can really soak up this season. I’d love to have more time for sipping hot cocoa (dying to try this recipe from Smitten Kitchen), watching Christmas movies, taking in some Christmas light displays, and baking cookies with my little one.  While I can’t add time to the day (dang it!), I’m going to try my best to make these relaxing activities a part of my priority list.

{remembering} Christmas traditions from childhood. For me, December brings nostalgia in a big way. We didn’t have a lot of “big” traditions for Christmas, but it’s the small, everyday things that have stuck with me all these years. Things like listening to a CD of cats meowing Christmas songs, making sugar cookie angels and having their poor little hands break off every single time, and reading The Best Christmas Pageant Ever year after year. I’m excited to make new memories for Jona that he can hopefully look back on with the same fondness.

{wrapping} up in blankets. I hate the cold weather, but I do love cozying up under a blanket inside. Doesn’t a cold, snowy night, with a warm blanket, a good book, and a cup of hot cocoa sound like perfection?

{baking} sweet potatoes and winter squash. Aaron and I started the 21 Day Fix on Monday, so lately the oven has been used for all things healthy. (I still plan to do some holiday baking, I’ll just enjoy in moderation… and give a lot away.) On this week’s menu we have spaghetti squash with meat sauce and loaded baked sweet potatoes (both from Skinnytaste, a favorite healthy blogger).

{decorating} little by little. Most years I get out all our Christmas decorations and try to get as much done as I can at once. This year, more because of a lack of time than anything else, I’ve been going more slowly and just doing a little bit at a time. I started by hanging our stockings on the fireplace (don’t mind the space heater… the fireplace will be up and running soon!) and plan to get a tree and decorate it this weekend.

What have you been up to currently?
