How to Tie a Blanket Scarf: 2 Ways

Recently a friend asked me for help tying a blanket scarf she received as a gift. Oversized scarves are a great winter accessory, but sometimes they can be a little overwhelming because, well, they are giant.

Today I’m sharing two ways to tie a blanket scarf, to make them feel a bit more wearable. One is they way I wore the scarf in this post, and also the tie from this post here.

How to tie a blanket scarf - two (non-bulky) ways

{blanket scarf tie one: twisted loop}

  1. Take a long blanket scarf and fold it in half length-wise.
  2. Fold in half to find the center point.
  3. Place that point around your neck and tie ends.
  4. Take one end and twist through the loop around your neck.
  5. Repeat that step (with the same end) and twist through the loop again.
  6. Take what’s left of that same end (there shouldn’t be much) and tuck it under the loop.
  7. Now, take the other end and do the same thing, twisting it around the loop, then tucking the end underneath.
  8. You may need to fluff it a bit, pulling at each twist a little, to get the look you want.

{blanket scarf tie two: knotted triangle}

  1. For this look, use an extra-large square scarf.
  2. Fold it in half diagonally and hold so that the triangle points down towards your feet.
  3. Holding the ends, pull the scarf towards your neck (triangle is pointing down).
  4. Cross the ends in the back and pull them to the front.
  5. Take those ends and tie them (they will be on top of the other part of the scarf, the larger part).
  6. Fluff that knot (pull the ends or twist the knot itself) so that the ends point downwards rather than out to the side.
