weekly highlights {13}

Last weekend I asked Jona, “What do you want to do today? We can stay home, we can stay home, or we can stay home.” He thought that was absolutely hilarious. I’m glad he sees the humor, although I can tell it’s hard on him not to see his friends and to have his schedule completely turned upside down. This has been hard on all of us, and we’re all moody and on edge more frequently lately.

Focusing on the highlights helps, so here are some things I’ve been loving lately.

Jona and his 14-story Lego tower

{eating}

  • Banana bread – This never lasts long but I’m always glad I made it.
  • Snickerdoodles – Cookies that don’t involve chocolate rarely excite me, but these are pretty dang good!
  • Hoisin Stir-Fry Bowls with Spicy Peanut Sauce – These were outstanding and packed with flavor! I will be making these again for sure. (I used ground pork and also left out the mushrooms–no one likes them. I also used peanut sauce I had leftover from another recipe.)

{reading}

  • Mindset – I listened to this on audio and liked it okay. It’s all about the growth mindset, and I do think she had a lot of great points. It just felt a bit long and repetitive.
  • The Great Believers – What a beautiful book. I loved this, although it was heartbreaking. Don’t pick this up if you need a light read right now, but if you can handle heavier themes I definitely recommend it.

{loving}

  • Project, Pantry, Purpose series on Dinner a Love Story – In each post, she shares a family project (often food-related), a pantry recipe, and a way to connect to the larger world.

What have been some of your highlights lately?
