Currently: July

Happy July and happy summer! Between our recent vacation and the 4th of July holiday, work weeks have been nice and short, and life has been good. As always, I’m joining Anne and her co-host this month, Stephanie, to share what I’m currently

{documenting} our trip to Minneapolis. Or at least I’m trying to figure out how to document it. My plan is to get a small photo album and make a Project Life-inspired photo book for it, but I’m a little afraid to get started. I tend to be a great starter and terrible finisher when it comes to photo projects.

{accomplishing} a long-time goal of starting a book club. As an avid reader, I’ve always wanted to be in a book club, but for one reason or another, it’s never worked out. However, I was listening to the Happier podcast the other day, and a listener called in with an idea of a laid-back, two-person book club, and I was instantly inspired. I texted a good friend of mine whose life as a working mom with two small kids is similar to mine, and who I know also loves to read. We decided to start with This Is Where You Belong: The Art and Science of Loving the Place You Live.  It’s especially apt since she’s moving soon, somewhat reluctantly.

{enjoying} Violet’s age. Eight months has been so much fun so far. Her little personality is starting to come out, and I love seeing her roll or army crawl across the room when she sees something she’s curious about. She especially loves her brother’s toys, and thankfully he’s still pretty good about sharing. (I know that won’t always be the case, but for now it’s sweet.)

{reading} my book club book, as well as The Highly Sensitive Child. I first heard about the concept of highly sensitive people from Modern Mrs. Darcy, and the more I learned about it the more I suspected that Jona is highly sensitive, especially when it comes to noise. I’m hoping that this book will give me some strategies for coping with his sensitivities, as well as ways for me to address his meltdowns/”threenager rage” that are better suited to his personality. Because boy, it’s been a challenging year.

{spending} time outside. The weather has been gorgeous lately, so we’ve been taking advantage of it and going outside whenever possible, before it gets unbearably hot.

What have you been up to lately?

Next month, I’m excited to be co-hosting the linkup with Anne, so I’d love for you to join me on August 2nd to share what you’re currently snacking (on), anticipating, borrowing, admiring, purchasing.
