Currently: March

After a warm, spring-like February, the arrival of March doesn’t feel like much of a surprise. I’m hoping that this nice weather continues and that winter doesn’t use March to fit in one last hurrah. Either way I’m happy to welcome the new month.

With a new month comes a new currently link up, so as usual I’m joining Anne and this month’s co-host Carrie to share what I’m up to.

{reading} Since I’m not watching much of anything right now (I didn’t even watch the Oscars, isn’t that terrible?!) I’ll share what I’m reading instead. On my Kindle I just started Rules of Civility, which I’ve heard nothing but great things about. I’m also trying to read more non-fiction this year, so I started The Fringe Hours as well, which I think fits in nicely with this very busy season of my life. Finally, on the weekends I’ve been reading and loving Emily Greene‘s devotional, Heartbeat. When life gets busy it is easy for me to let prayer and scripture reading fall by the wayside, but I am trying to make a conscious effort this year to make it a priority. The devotionals in Heartbeat are short, but powerful, and help me to do just that.

{eating} breakfast. As usual I’m getting tired of eating the same thing for breakfast every day, so I’ve been trying some new ideas. I prefer something that I can just take with me to work and eat at my desk. I’m up early enough as it is without trying to eat breakfast at home! So far I’ve tried these chocolate almond overnight oats and this southwest breakfast casserole. Next up I plan to try this peanut butter oatmeal that I heard about on The Girl Next Door podcast.

{saying} what I’m grateful for. Using the strategy of “pairing” from Gretchen Rubin’s Better Than Before, I’m trying to practice gratitude daily by listing all the things I’m grateful for in my life while I’m taking a shower in the evening. Because I shower at night, it’s always been a time when I think about my day. However, by making it a time where I intentionally think about all that I’m thankful for, it helps me end my day on a good note rather than dwelling on things I wish I had done differently.

{wearing} multi-season clothes. February was an unseasonably warm month, so I was able to wear things that don’t usually leave my closet this time of year, like flats and light jackets. However, there were still some cold days mixed in, so my boots and heavy coat were part of the rotation as well.

{posting} more “life” than “style”. This blog has always been a “lifestyle” blog, but for a long time it focused more on the “style” side than the “life” side. However, lately that hasn’t been the case. It’s not because I don’t want to share more style posts, rather, it’s just become more challenging to take outfit photos with two kids. I hope to get back to regular style posts soon! Meanwhile, I do try to share regular outfits of the day on Instagram, so be sure to follow along!

What have you been up to lately? Also, what do you eat for breakfast–any quick and easy ideas that you enjoy?
