8 Things Making Me Happy

I’ve had a bit of writer’s block lately, which I attribute to my current sleep-deprived state (thanks Violet). I was catching up on a few favorite blogs, and I was inspired by Anne’s Things Making Me Happy post from this fall. I decided to make one of my own, because after another 4am wake-up, I could use a little dose of happiness.

So here are 8 things on my happy list.

{one} fun pens. Writing is just more enjoyable with colorful pens, right? I bought a new set for my bullet journal this year, and I also just picked up some more Papermate Flair pens for work. I may be the only person in the meeting jotting down notes with a fuchsia pen, but I don’t think that’s a bad thing.

{two} quality food and drink containers for work. This seems frivolous, but it’s amazing what a difference it makes when things like my water bottle and lunch bag function well and look nice. For the longest time I carried around an old lunch bag that wasn’t a good size for the containers I brought my lunch in, and a water bottle that would leak and sweat. For Christmas, Aaron gave me a Swell water bottle, and I love how cold my water stays, all day. I also bought a Built lunch bag, which I love, and an insulated coffee mug that keeps my coffee nice and hot.

{three} preschool. For some reason, I was nervous about how preschool would go for Jona. I knew he would come to love it, but I worried that it would take a while for him to adjust. However, he is already having a blast! The fact that he’s happy is enough to make me happy, but it’s more than that. He’s eating food there that I can never get him to try at home, and after fighting battle after battle on potty training, after just a few days of being there he’s well on his way to being fully potty trained! Preschool, I love you.

{four} baby coos. I can’t get enough of Violet’s little coos and cute baby noises. She loves the changing table; I put her there and she’ll just kick her feet, flail her arms, and talk up a storm. I hear those little coos and almost forget about the less pleasant sounds she’ll be making in the wee hours of the morning.

{five} new boots (for a steal!). Target was having a big boot sale the other day and I picked up this gorgeous over-the-knee pair for $19!

{six} Happier page-a-day calendar. I love buying new calendars every year, and this is a fun one. Happier is one of my favorite podcasts, so naturally I love her calendar too. I guess I’m a bit of a Gretchen Rubin junkie.

{seven} dark chocolate covered almonds. I stock up on these at Aldi, where they’re nice and cheap, and keep them in my desk drawer at work. They’re the perfect little pick-me-up snack.

{eight} quiet mornings. On days I go into the office, mornings are busy and hectic. However, on the days I’m home, although I’m usually up earlier than I’d prefer to be (I’m a morning person, but 4am is pushing it!), sometimes Violet will go back to sleep for a bit and I can enjoy a cup of coffee before Jona gets up. I can either get some work done, or if it’s a weekend I can just relax and read blogs or watch Gilmore Girls or something. Now I understand why my mom would always get up so early when I was growing up–it was probably the only time of day she had any peace!

What’s making you happy right now?
