Stitch Fix Review: My July Fix

Since I have a lot of my basics covered for maternity wear, I decided to order a Stitch Fix box this month to get a “fun” item or two for my wardrobe. I was really happy with what my stylist sent, however, despite adjusting the preferences in my profile the prices are a lot higher than I’d like. I’m realizing that if I want to continue getting boxes, I’ll need to either plan my budget accordingly or be okay with just keeping one item per box. Spoiler: I only kept one item this month.

Here’s what I got in my July fix.

{one} 41Hawthorn – Colibri Solid Tab Sleeve Blouse, Small: $48

This isn’t a maternity top, and I was surprised with how well it fit even with my substantial bump. It may not work my whole pregnancy, but it is something I would be able to wear after. Also, I don’t have anything in my wardrobe this color, and I do like it. However, I can’t see myself wearing it a lot this summer because of the longer sleeves, and while it does have tab-style sleeves that can be rolled up I rarely do that. (They never stay!) In the end, I was on the fence about this top, so it went back.

Verdict: Return.

{two} Liverpool – Mirabella Maternity Cropped Skinny Jean, 6: $78

I liked these jeans a lot. The fit was great, and the dark wash makes them great for most days in my casual office. However, if I were to buy another pair of maternity jeans I would want a full-length pair. I just don’t like cropped jeans as much. Also, what I really need is non-denim pants. For those reasons, at this price I couldn’t justify keeping these.

Verdict: Return.

{three} Daniel Rainn – Meszaros Eyelet Maternity Top, Small: $74

So, I loved this top. I’ve been looking for a white cotton summery top and have been striking out left and right. That’s why you could probably hear the sound of my heart breaking when I decided to put this back in bag and send it back. Before you start calling me crazy, let me tell you why I didn’t keep it. It is perfect for summer, but come fall I likely won’t want to wear such a summery top. Also, since it’s a maternity top, if I wanted to keep it to wear next summer, I would have to get it altered. If it were around $30 or so, I would do that for sure. However, $74 is a lot of money to spend on one top that I’ll only be wearing for the next couple of months.

Verdict: Return, sadly.

{four} Dolce Vita – Monica Suede Criss Cross Slide Sandal, 9: $70

I’m just going to put it out there. Pregnancy is not a good time for my ankles and feet. They swell, and with this pregnancy I’ve developed lovely varicose veins on my right ankle. Yay! So, while I do like the color and style of these shoes (and I appreciate that the stylist listened to my request to not send anything with an ankle strap), the thick straps and sole aren’t very flattering on my feet.

Verdict: Return.

{five} Collective Concepts – Amabell V-neck Maternity Dress, Small: $78

Folks, we have a winner! I love this dress. The colors and pattern are so pretty, and different from anything else in my closet. It is great now, but will also look cute with tights and boots (as suggested by my stylist, and I agree) in the fall. I have a wedding to go to next month and this dress will be perfect for it. The best part is that despite it being a maternity dress, I think I will be able to wear it when I’m not pregnant as well. To me, that justifies the price.

Verdict: Keep.

I think my stylist did an excellent job this month, and because of that it was difficult to decide what to keep. Other than the shoes, I really did like everything I received, but because of the prices I couldn’t keep all 4 of those items. In the note to my stylist, I requested “affordable” maternity clothes, and to me these prices do not reflect that request. However, I need to realize that if I’m looking for budget-friendly items, Stitch Fix may not be the place to go. I may wait until after I’m no longer pregnant, but I think I will eventually order another Stitch Fix box–it is such a fun service to try.

What do you think, did I keep the right item? What would you have kept?
