Sometimes I start to convince myself that my budget is preventing me from having a wardrobe that I’m satisfied with. Like my toddler, I get the words “need” and “want” confused, and I start to believe that more is more. However, I’m continually re-learning the concept of contentment, and trying to balance that with my desire to shop.
One way I find balance is by making sure that when I do shop, I shop smart. I try to purchase pieces that are versatile and that are easily remixed with what I already have. For example, two recent additions to my closet are a striped dress and a black and white check shirt. Both are items that I know I’ll get a lot of mileage out of. Combined with other basics like a jean jacket, black pants, and a bright-colored cardigan, I have a week’s worth of outfits made from just a handful of pieces.
