Summer Day-Trip to the Omaha Zoo

This year, because we’re saving to sell and buy a house, we decided to stay-cation rather than vacation. However, we talked about taking a day trip to Omaha, just a few hours away, to visit their amazing zoo. Aaron and I first visited the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha two summers ago, when I was pregnant with Jona. When we went then I knew that we would be coming back for another visit.

So last Friday we packed up my dad’s SUV and took a family road trip. Unfortunately, being the day before a holiday, everyone had the same idea as us and the zoo was packed. It was a great time and the weather was nice, but we definitely had to fight the crowds. I had expected Jona to love it, especially since one of his favorite toys is a set of little animal figures. I know he had fun, but he got more excited about the train that took visitors around the zoo than anything else. All in all we had fun though, and I’m so glad that we live so close to such an awesome zoo. If you’re ever near Omaha, it’s definitely worth checking out!

The expression on Jona’s face here… priceless.

We worked up quite an appetite with all the walking around we did, so we drove to downtown Omaha and visited Stokes Grill and Bar. I was pretty hungry, but I didn’t want anything too heavy after being out in the heat so I ordered a favorite of mine, fish tacos. They were delicious! Jona was also happy with his crayons, cheese quesadilla, and “Fridays” (french fries).

It only took about 5 minutes of being in the car when we left for this dude to conk out. It was a fun but exhausting day!

I love Kansas City, but every once in a while it’s fun to visit somewhere new, and Omaha has a lot to offer. Have you taken any fun day-trips lately?
