Valentine's Day Inspired Red and Pink

I know there's been no talk of this on the internet whatsoever (har), but Valentine's Day is Saturday. Yes, it's a totally commercial holiday invented by card companies and yada yada yada, but I like Valentine's Day. (Also, I live in Kansas City, home of Hallmark, so there's that too.) I've always liked Valentine's Day, even during my single days. No, it's not like Christmas for me, and I don't need expensive gifts, flowers, and jewelry for the occasion. However, I do like the hearts, the chocolate, the pink, and the excuse to have a date night, or do something special for your significant other (or yourself! no shame there).

In honor of the occasion, I'm breaking out the red with the pink. I love that these two once-clashing colors can now be worn together without scorn. At least in the blog world. I may get some live scorners, but they'll likely be scorning silently. Meanwhile, I'll be here in my red and pink, eating some early Valentine's Day chocolate.

Do you like Valentine's Day? What are your plans this year?

  1. So pretty. I love the red and pink together. That scarf is gorgeous! I don't really ever celebrate Valentine's Day, but I have absolutely nothing against it. Like you said, any excuse for chocolate and a date night!

  2. That is another gorgeous, casual yet quite dressy Valentine's look. I want those Magenta Pumps. The floral scarf is too pretty, also. You look great, Shea. =)

  3. Thanks so much! I think any night can be special--you don't need "Valentine's Day" to appreciate your significant other, but regardless, I can't help but like it. :)

  4. I love this outfit! It's perfect for Valentine's Day! And I'm with you, I like V-day, it's not like Christmas, but it is an excuse for a nice date night (which let's face it, as parents we need those right?). We're going out to a little Italian place we love for a nice meal just the two of us. Simple. Also, I learned something new, I didn't know Kansas City was home to Hallmark!

  5. Thanks Beth! Yes, exactly. Valentine's Day gave us the perfect excuse for a much-needed date night. (Actually, we're doing date night on Friday night instead--but we're headed to our favorite little Italian place too!)

  14. Thanks Alexandra!! Have fun seeing the Princess Bride, I LOVE that movie. That's one that my husband just doesn't get, unfortunately. When I made him watch with me he just kept looking at me like I was crazy.

  15. They're so classic and pretty. I always thought Marilyn got it wrong, pearls are my best friend... not diamonds. ;) XO

  16. haha KC grew up watching it, I never did much, so I am working to love it more. Seeing it out is good incentive for me. I just love seeing not-new movies out. :) XO

  20. Thanks Anne--it was the scarf that made me decide that it would work, so thanks! :) Aww, I bet Hendrik-themed Valentine cards are adorable, that's a good idea. And yes, I love all the creative ideas for showing the love to everyone in your life. (Like a heart-shaped pizza with little heart shaped pepperonis on it, a recipe I found and may have to make for my boys this weekend!)

  26. Thanks Melanie! These pants have been some of my favorites for years! :)

  28. Well said, Elle. I totally agree that it's a great way to celebrate love for anyone in your life. My mom's birthday is February 15th so I always celebrate her on Valentine's Day too!

  29. I'm really not sure how anyone could scorn this look! It's adorable, and you make wearing a scarf as an accessory look easy. I tend to just wear them as outerwear... they often swallow me up.

I'm not a big v-day lover, or hater. My mom always gets me chocolate, I get her flowers, this year we are going to starbucks for their special 'v-day menu pairings'. I'll go out with Sean on Monday night. I'm not terribly annoyed I don't get to spend Saturday with him, it's about the sentiment more than the actual day right?

  30. Thanks Lydia, you're so sweet! I feel like I'm constantly cold, so scarves are my lifesaver!
I love that you're going to Starbucks with your mom this year for Valentine's Day! I wish my mom lived closer so we could have a Valentine's Day date too. And have fun on Monday with your man--you're right, it's the sentiment, not the day, that counts!

  34. Thanks so much Megan! Chocolate/candy + quality time with the one(s) you love...what could be better? :)

  35. I love everything about your outfit! I probably wouldn't think to pair bright pink with red, but it all flows so well together. I have some shoes in a similar color and they made an appearance in my Style Challenge for the week too. :)

We never do anything for Valentine's Day as a couple, but I still like it as a holiday. This year I sent out a bunch of cards to friends and family and got the elementary school-style valentines and candy for all my co-workers.

  36. Aww, that's sweet that you got Valentines for your coworkers--I wouldn't have thought to do that! I just like all the cute ideas out there for Valentines, there are so many good ones!
    Anyway, thank you! :)

  37. I love that you paired the pink and red with gray! That's a great combo and normally if I wear pink and red together I pair it with black or white... so gray would be a nice alternative!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Thanks Kari! Gray has been my go-to neutral lately, so I'm glad it worked!

  39. Super cute!!! Absolutely love this outfit!!

  40. I've never actually tried the denim-on-denim look before - what kind of style blogger am I?! ;) I like how it looks on you a lot, though!

  41. You're still awesome...denim on denim or no :) Thanks Brynn!
