Bringing Boot-Cut Back

I am a devoted denim-lover. I adore my jeans, and I can't imagine my wardrobe without the perfect pair (or three). I was surprised when I did a little "capsule inventory" to discover that once again, my bootcut jeans were one of my least-worn items. I wear my dark wash skinny jeans like crazy, and if they're in the wash my trusty back-up pair are my straight leg jeans. There was a time in my life when all I wore were boot-cut jeans, and I remember buying my first pair of skinnies, thinking "I don't know about this..." At the time I never imagined that they would become an irreplaceable closet staple.

In the spirit of shaking things up a little (and with inspiration from the Two Birds gals), I resurrected my boot-cuts from the back of the jeans drawer. With a leopard print blouse, gray moto jacket and boots, they're perfect for casual Friday. To make this look more date-night worthy, all I need to do is add my favorite statement necklace and a pair of heels.

What's your go-to jeans style?

  1. These jeans look great on you! I used to pretty much only wear boot cut jeans too and have found I don't really reach for them very much anymore. They're still a very flattering cut though, I should really pull some of mine back out!

  2. Thanks Beth! That was kind of my thought too, that I just kind of forget to reach for them. But when I put them on I remembered why I used to like them so much!

  3. They look great on you! I wore my wide-legged jeans all day thinking they looked cute, and then I looked at my pictures and hated them. Let's hope real life was better than pics! (enough about me)...you look great. I love that fun jacket!

  5. If it's your pictures from today's blog post you're referring to, I beg to differ--I thought you both looked great!! But thank you! :)

  6. Thanks Megan! I totally agree, they are really flattering and pretty easy to wear. (Although my one complaint about this pair is that I have to wear them with a bit of a heel or they're too long and look sloppy. And my heel collection is minimal.)

  7. i noticed the same thing last year - my dark skinnies were on repeat (to the point of rebutting and rebutting) and the bootcut weren't getting much love. maybe because skinnies are easier with boots? idk. this year, however, i'm all about the leggings (easier on the big belly!) also, i've told you this before but i love that jacket!

  8. Yeah, I think the boots factor may be a big one. And the length factor--skinnies work with any heel height I feel, whereas boot cuts can't be too long or short, you know? And I don't blame you one bit for being all about the leggings...you have to be comfortable when you're dressing for two!! Thanks lady :)

  9. Hi Shea,

Yes, I am a bootcut, flared girl all the way, cannot abide skinnies- my feet are too large to get into!!!

    Love your look. xx

  17. Oh fun! I actually have a pair of boot cuts that I love. I wear them quite a bit, and my dark skinnies too of course. Plus colored straight leg denim. And skinny gray pants. I have a lot of jeans... : / These are super cute, I love how you styled them. XO - Alexandra

  19. I still love a good bootcut pair of jeans - I love how they look with sneakers and flats, so I tend to wear mine more often in the spring and fall than during the winter. I like this outfit a lot on you!

  20. Thank you!! I like the look of boot-cuts with sneakers & flats too, but these are just too long! Every time I wear them with flats I hate how it looks, but maybe with a different pair it would be better.
