Red Lips + a Glammed Up Sweatshirt

Well, I can check one thing off my list: I found some red lipstick! I still feel very conspicuous when I wear it, like I may as well be walking around with a visible thought bubble over my head that says "Hello! I'm wearing lipstick!" but I figure eventually, I'll get used to it. Maybe it will be similar to my first go-round with skinny jeans or a big ol' statement necklace. I wear both of those like it ain't no thing now. My goal is to be a nonchalant lipstick-wearer, you know, like a messy-haired Parisian girl who "forgot" to put on any makeup save for a swipe of Ruby Woo. (Don't worry, I'll use concealer on my tired-mama dark under-eye circles.)

I may have upped the conspicuousness factor by wearing this embellished sweatshirt, but despite its glitzy appearance it's amazingly soft and cozy. Any time I can wear a soft sweatshirt to work is a win to me. This look is second only to a dress in it's simplicity: sweatshirt, black pants, lipstick; no other layers or accessories needed.

Do you wear lipstick? What's your favorite shade?

  1. oooh, it looks fabulous on you! I feel the same way when I wear lipstick. I also then start licking my lips and playing with it all the time, so it either rubs off or gets all over my face/teeth. I'm no good with lipstick, but somehow I keep buying it (like every time I go to Target).

  2. That is great lipstick!! I love the color! I recently got some bright orange lipstick and I was afraid it would look clown like on me, but actually, it looks kind of nice, sort of peachy and fun. I also love the embellished sweatshirt, I'm with you, anytime you can get away with wearing a sweatshirt to work it's a win!

  7. Thanks Beth! The cozy sweatshirt is a nice balance to the lipstick, which I'm still not quite comfortable in :)
You'll have to show off your lipstick too! (If you haven't already.)

  8. I know, I heard that recommendation from Elle Sees and I saw it on a couple of other sites too, so it was the first one I tried. I tried a couple others from MAC but that was the one that I liked best. It is bright though!

  9. Thanks!! Haha yeah, I'm finding myself doing the same thing. I feel this need to keep checking it to see if it smeared/if it's in my teeth. Maybe I'll get used to it?

  12. Thanks Jennifer! I was the same way--it took me a while to get brave enough :) I still feel like hiding in my office all day, haha!
You should try it too! Maybe toward the end of your pregnancy to stop people from staring at your belly (I feel like toward the very end I got a few open-mouthed gapes. Oh, people.) :)

  13. That's what I'm hoping--that it will just become another accessory to add to an otherwise simple outfit. But it will take me some time to get used to I think!
And I agree with the Sephora girl--the red lipstick you have looks great on you!

  14. I'm so 90s when it comes to lipstick. I like a totally unfashionable color called silver sand. It's a brownish color with some silver tones to it. Your red is fab! My first visit here.

  16. I like red lips. It did take me a bit of adjusting, but it really is just like everything else - soon you will put it on without a second thought.

    Gorgeous sweatshirt too!

  22. THIS LOOKS SO AMAZING ON YOU!! I love it!! I am also trying to do more lip color. I only have a few, I am going eco with my personal products.. so I have a few lip crayons, and a few 'lipstick' like products. Most of them are bright pink. I love that shade on me. But I want to find a red I love, and also a coral! :) My favorite might be a bright light pink. So not fuscia... but bright! Oh and dressy sweatshirts are they key to happiness... I swear it!
