Working Mom Style: Balancing Act

I hate to say that I've resigned to taking indoor pictures this winter, but desperate, busy, leave-and-get-home-in-the-dark times call for desperate measures. I try to plan ahead and take pictures on the weekend, but some weekends are nearly as busy as weekdays. #bloggerproblems

Lately I've been feeling a little overwhelmed by everything I'd like to accomplish on this blog, at home, and even at work. Top that off with all the "must-dos" of the Christmas season, and I could easily turn into one big ball of stress if I'm not careful. I read a great post on Baby Rabies the other day about not doing it all, and it was exactly what I needed to hear. Sometimes that nagging, perfectionist voice in my head needs to just relax and have a glass of wine.

Truthfully, it's difficult to find the energy to do much of anything after I get home from work, cook dinner, then take care of Jona and put him to bed. That leaves just the weekends for getting things done. I realize that this is completely unrelated to an outfit post, but I'm curious, how do you find a balance between accomplishing your goals and taking the time to relax and enjoy life?

(Sorry, this went from a blog post to Dear Abby in a hot minute, didn't it?)

  1. I can totally relate on the indoor pictures - I gave up on outside awhile ago and it makes me sad! And I have no good advice about trying to do it all other than I like the idea of slowing down and having a glass of wine now and then! Love the vest, reminds me I haven't worn mine in awhile!

  2. I think we are all feeling a little stressed at this time of year! But the good news is, you look beautiful and the indoor pictures turned out just fine (small miracles at this point, right?) :) -xx

  3. It's so dark. All the time. Where has the sun been, lately? Gray, gray, gray.
Love this vest- nothing like an army green utility vest/jacket to add a little cool to an outfit. :)

  6. Thanks Ashley! I know it...it's been in a permanent dreary state around here, hasn't it? Hopefully we'll see the sun soon!

  7. Not sure I have any suggestions...since I need to go read that post, stat. It's hard how weekends feel like the time you have to get things done, because then when do you relax? Luckily blogging is a hobby I enjoy, so "having" to get posts done on the weekends is at least part of my relaxation. I think as moms we're probably just wired to try to do it all, so it's hard to avoid these feelings but good to remember to cut ourselves some slack sometimes. Also, Beth is right on: glass of wine.

  8. I think you're right--it's just something that comes with motherhood, like worrying, I guess! I agree about blogging too; it is a hobby I enjoy, but with my current schedule I'm sometimes rushing to get posts done. I think I need to do some schedule-rearranging--I like the idea of getting them all done on the weekend!

  9. I'm right there with ya, Shea! As of Monday, I'm taking my outfit photos inside. Totally saves me time + it's just getting too darn cold. Definitely can get overwhelming keeping up with everything. Goodness, I've been there many times! But glad you're finding a way to make it all work - adore what you're wearing here by the way. Relaxed and so lovely!! xo

  14. i've been feeling this same way. My thought is that, as a reader, I really don't mind the indoor shots so long as the outfit is cute and inspiring--and this one fits the bill.

  15. Thanks Megan, good to hear! I feel like there are plenty of bloggers who do the indoor shots really well. I think I still need to work on lighting/camera settings, but it's a start! :)
