Trial by Wearer

As I mentioned before, I'm starting my winter capsule in January, so I'm using the month of December as a transition month. I've made a list of things I'd like to buy, but I'm also "shopping" my own wardrobe as well. Several things from my fall capsule will stick around, but I'm using this month as sort of a trial-period to see which currently-owned items will make the cut.

This sweatshirt and plaid shirt are two such items that I'm thinking of adding to my winter capsule. This plaid shirt from J.Crew is a softer, warmer version of my fall wardrobe's plaid option. This sweatshirt is a cozy way to add some sparkle to a look, and I like how it can be dressed up or down.

What are your winter-weather wardrobe must-haves?

Plaid shirt: J.Crew / sequin sweatshirt: Old Navy / denim pencil skirt: Target / brown riding boots: Mia

  1. Cute! I like how this outfit can work for all of winter - the plaid I'm wearing this month I'm not sure about including in the winter capsule because it always feels so Christmas-y. Clearly I just need to work it better!

  3. I sort of feel that way about this sweatshirt...although it doesn't feel Christmas-y per say it feels "festive" which to me seems very "December". Trying to decide if it should stick around...

  4. Thanks Ashley! I agree, I wear these all the time! (No doubt I'll be sick of them by March.)

  9. Very cute and I love the sequin details on the sweatshirt with the plaid shirt. My winter must have this year is patterned leggings--so much warmer than tights and there's so many fun patterns out there.

  10. Thanks Megan! You're right, I have seen lots of fun patterns out there for leggings. I'm not much of a leggings-wearer, although I keep seeing cute ones I want to try!

  11. Hmmm, I see what you mean. That's why I'm just trying to wear the heck out of the stuff that feels really "December", like my red pants, so I can justify keeping them as one-month items that I pull out for the holidays and then put away before the winter capsule...

  12. I think the plaid shirt should definitely make it in. I love sequins on the sweatshirt as well, and I think it could have potential since it can work with both a skirt and denim.

  14. Yes, I agree about the plaid. Although I do have to sew on a button if I want to wear it not under a sweater... but I think I can do that :)
