KC Blogger Meetup Workshop: Beautify Your Blog

Over the weekend I went to a blogging workshop put on by the KC Blogger Meetup group that was all about how to beautify your blog. I'm very lucky to live in an area that has such a fantastic group of bloggers that organize different types of get-togethers fairly frequently.

The event was hosted by Chez Elle, a creperie and coffee shop, and they graciously served us their incredible crepes. I (shockingly, I know) chose a chocolate mousse crepe...it was heaven.

The food and company would have been enough of a reason to attend, but in addition we heard three knowledgeable, inspiring speakers. Sarah from One Sparrow Creative shared a few of her photography and photo-editing secrets. As someone who considers myself very amateur when it comes to photography, I found her presentation extremely helpful. Maybe I'll venture out of manual mode one of these days!

Lauren from Creative Reasoning, a designer, divulged a few of her best design tips. So much of what she shared about design made perfect sense, yet I'd never really thought about it that way before. (For example, space is good on a blog or website...your eyes need room to "breathe" too!)

In addition, Karrie from Happy Habitat shared the story of her journey to small-business ownership. She designs beautiful throws and pillow covers in stunning patterns and bold colors. She even gave away one of her designs to a lucky winner (tear...not me) at the workshop.

The workshop would have been complete there, but everyone walked away with a swag bag filled with goodies. I also won a gift certificate to Chuy's Mexican restaurant...yum!

Clockwise from left: personalized tumbler from La Plates / travel bag by Stephanie Johnson / candy cup with pink bandeau top from Tulip Boutique / reusable tote from Whole Foods / gift card from Tortilla Ranch / Samples (plus generous coupon) from L'Occitane / gift card from Chuy's KC / gift card from Nothing Bundt Cakes / tiny chair placecard holders from HMK 1910

What was the last fun workshop or class you attended?

And Dad, if you're reading, happy birthday!

  1. What an awesome swag bag!! Look like a fun event! The last thing like this I went to was a moms night out event put on by our local moms blog. We had Nothing Bundt Cakes at our event too, I didn't know they had other locations!

  2. How fun! Delicious, informative, AND cool free stuff, can't beat that. I ventured into the world of manual mode when we got our new camera last summer, but I'm still practicing...

  4. Very true, it was a great combination :) I very rarely try manual mode, just because I get so overwhelmed by all the options! But I think if I start small and just play with one setting at a time I might be able to try.
