Filling Holes: A Winter Wishlist

I'm not even two full months into this capsule wardrobe and I admit I'm already thinking about the next one. I've learned a lot by having a smaller wardrobe this season, and I'm still pretty happy with my choices. However, I can't help thinking about holes I'd like to fill when I begin to transition to a winter capsule in December. Here are a few things on my wishlist right now.

Clockwise from top left:

1. Brown leather booties. My taupe suede booties from Target are nearing the end of their little, much-worn lives, I fear. Now that I know just how much I rely on ankle boots in the fall and winter, I think an upgrade is in store.

2. Black skinny pants. I considered buying a pair of black skinny pants for my fall capsule, but I didn't find a pair I liked. I'm still thinking about them though, which means I ought to at least try again to find the right pair for the next go-round.

3. Print sweater. I have two neutral sweaters in my collection right now, but I need at least one more pullover sweater for the cold weather. I like the idea of a sweater in a neutral color but with an interesting print.

4. Bold colored coat. Although I'm (still) drawn to a lot of neutrals lately, I'd love to have a bold, bright coat to keep me warm this winter. I've had the same tired gray pea-coat for several years, and it's starting to fall apart, literally. With the winters we've been having lately, this won't be an item I skip out on this year.

5. Striped long sleeve dress. You know me and striped dresses. The one I've been wearing for what feels like forever is still in surprisingly great shape, but it's not always my favorite for layering in the cooler months. Its waist is a little higher than my natural waist, which makes adding a sweater and a belt a bit of a challenge. For winter, I'd ideally like a striped dress with sleeves and a waistline that isn't too defined. I can do the defining myself with the help of a belt.

What's on your wishlist right now?

  1. Yessss, brown leather booties! Love those. You can't have too many ankle boots, methinks. :)

  2. I totally agree. I wear my ankle boots all the time--so another pair is totally justified :)

  3. I have those exact black pants and they are one of my favorites. And that coat is absolutely beautiful. I'm going to try to plan better for my Winter capsule as well. I've got my eye out for a comfy grey cowl neck sweater and plaid pants or pencil skirts.

  4. Oh I like the plaid pants/pencil skirt idea! And I'm glad to know that these pants are a favorite--I'll have to go try them on soon. Loft usually does have good pants!

  5. I'm with you on wanting a new pair of black skinny pants. The pair I have well, they stretched out quite a bit and aren't so skinny anymore! I like the printed sweater you picked too!

  6. I hate it when pants do that--I had to get rid of a pair of jeans that did that too. They started the day as skinny jeans, but by the end, they were baggy knee saggy butt jeans, which as you can imagine, is real flattering :)

  7. Yes! Thinking about holes here too and am also on the hunt for ankle boots. Bought a Target pair for the fall capsule but decided to return and keep hunting for something better - so I'm bootless for now, but I like to wear flats as loonnng as possible anyway since once we get a month into winter I start to hate any boots, no matter how perfect they start out, ha. What I REALLY want is cognac riding boots, but I'm not sure I have the energy to start that hunt again - there's just nothing that fits my short legs AND my calf size.

A bold coat is definitely a great buy for winter - I always say that when you're out and about in the winter, your coat pretty much ends up being your outfit, so might as well go for something great! And of course I'm with you on the striped dress - and a straight cut is really nice for layering. Though I tried to get that particular one (in several sizes) and I'm not sure who they're making it to fit. Not me!

  8. Ha, I always feel the same way about boots by the end of winter too. I looked for a long time for the perfect brown riding boots before I found mine, so I understand the dilemma. I had the most luck at DSW. Good luck in your search! Have you tried 6pm.com? I have had luck with them in the past as well.

The last few years, I've had a coat I feel kind of blah about, so I think it's about time I get a fun one! I like to try things on when I can, so I'm hoping to find a striped dress in an actual store that's similar to that one, but not the exact same. But when I have a particular shape/style in mind that's when I have the worst luck finding it in a store. I like the idea of shopping online (so much variety! so easy!) but in reality it doesn't usually work for me (except with shoes, I have better luck with shoes).

  9. Oh, my problem EXACTLY with hunting down a striped dress for fall. Always goes that way when you know what you want.

And I'll have to try 6pm.com - I tried going in to DSW the other day and felt exhausted as soon as I walked in the door... Too many options! I do much better with shoes when I can narrow down online and order a few pairs with free shipping to try at home.

  10. I love DSW, but I definitely have to be in the mood for it--it can be overwhelming! As long as there's no shipping (or the shipping is low) it's totally worth it to go online for shoes!

  11. I have been meaning to read the Rosie Project too, but haven't gotten to it yet. :) Random fact--when I was younger I was in the Fox in Sox play--I was one of the three fleas that swung in the trees and sneezed.

  12. Oh, the Book Thief is one of my favorites of this year too! I flew through it. I loved the movie too, surprisingly. It was beautiful. Have you seen the movie?

  13. Oh how cute!! I've never seen it done as a play, I bet it's adorable :)

  14. No, I haven't, but after this post so many people have recommended it. I'll definitely have to see it!

  15. I've been obsessing over booties lately. The amount I want knows no bounds. First it was black leather, then grey suede and now haircalf. But these brown ones are classic and will go with everything!

  16. A survival guide AND the Bible. Yep, I wish I had come up with the survival guide idea! So brilliant. :)

And I've been wanting to read Jenny Han's books for awhile now! I stumbled across a review of To All the Boys I've Ever Loved and even checked it out from my library but didn't get a chance to read it before the due date appeared (I'm reading a few other books right now). Anyway, I hope to read it this summer because you can never go wrong with a well-written YA book!

    Thanks for linking up!

  18. I had no idea how much I would love booties until I bought a pair...then two pairs. They go with everything! I'm joining you in being obsessed :)
