Fall 2014 Capsule Wardrobe Roundup: September

I've been doing this capsule wardrobe thing for a whole month now. Somewhat surprisingly, there have been no tears shed over items I purged, nor have I looked at my closet and silently willed more things to appear. What's more, this smaller, more edited closet of mine has made it easier and even more fun to get dressed. Month one, success.

For the capsule wardrobe linkup at In Residence and Just Jacq, I thought it would be fun to take a look at a few of my most-worn pieces, and my favorite ways that I styled them.

Graphic Tee from J.Crew Factory

tee + bright pencil skirt (in pink!) + similar shoes

Striped blouse from J.Crew Factory

blouse + jeans + shoes

Boyfriend jeans from Loft

Red flats from Gap Outlet

What have you gotten a lot of wear out of this month?

  1. I passed up that striped sleeveless button down at J. Crew a while back, and I have regretted it so many times. It is so cute and versatile! All your September pieces are fun and easy to mix and match!

  2. Thanks Megan! I worried they'd be too neutral and "boring" but I think the mix and match factor has made it work. And I've done that where I pass something up only to see it again and keep thinking about it!! (I think it's still there if it's still haunting you... :) )

  3. We have the same leopard shoes! Aren't they the best? I wore them all around Brooklyn and they held up really well and were super comfy with all the walking I did. I got them in brown too but have yet to wear them. Thanks for linking up! I love how you showcased your outfits!

  4. Yes, I LOVE them. I was on the hunt specifically for leopard flats, and I found them right when I walked in the door at DSW. It's rarely that easy, so what a great surprise! And thanks--I really wanted to get more "real" outfit shots in for many of these, but it just didn't happen so I tried to get creative :)

  6. Thanks Beth. I am a shoe lover all the way. I think that was the hardest thing in my closet to edit for this capsule wardrobe!

  8. Thanks Megan! They are really comfortable too, which is a requirement for me--I'm usually a flats girl.

  12. I'm with you on this whole thing - so far so good! And I have a feeling that we'll actually still be singing this same tune even after our second month, which is much more than I can usually say for my seasonal wardrobes. Been enjoying your outfits, and so glad you've linked!

And I've been getting tons of use of my pointy-toe leopard shoes - somehow an item that I thought would be a staple never got much wear until now when I've cleared things out enough and have enough neutrals in the wardrobe that they can finally get some love. Their time to shine :)

  15. Thanks! For the next two months I'm keeping the same items, but I'll have a "new" capsule starting in December. I'm sure many of the items will stay, but I'll update with more winter-friendly pieces and hopefully some new items (hello Christmas money!) too.
