Orange Print Shorts 2 Ways

Usually by this point in the summer, I’m dying to buy new shorts because I keep wearing the same pairs over and over. This summer hasn’t been consistently hot enough yet to wear out my shorts. This weekend’s rising temperatures did make me reach for this printed pair a couple of times. Here’s how I styled these orange printed shorts 2 ways this weekend.

Look 1: Bold Print Mix.  Inspired by the Inspiration Monday photo at Two Birds, I paired these shorts with a paisley print button up. I wasn’t sure if the patterns would work together, but I actually loved how it turned out. Print mixing can sometimes be tricky, but there are a couple of reasons why I think this particular mix worked. One, the patterns are two different sizes, so they aren’t competing with each other. Two, the color palettes are similar: the orange color is found in both the shirt and shorts.

Paisley shirt: thrifted J.Crew; orange print shorts: Loft; belt: Loft; flats: Target

Look 2: Simple Classic. The second time I wore these shorts, I let their print and color stand out by pairing them with a basic white button up. I love the combination of orange and turquoise, so I added simple turquoise sandals and earrings to complete the look.

White button-up: Gap Outlet; orange print shorts: Loft; earrings: Old Navy; sandals: Old Navy
