Striped Blazer, Neon and Denim

Thanks to my birthday money spend-a-thon and shopping with my mom, almost everything I'm wearing in this post is a recent purchase. After my favorite boyfriend jeans met their death, I needed a replacement pair. I found these at Loft on a day everything was 40 percent off. Target was having a t-shirt sale so I picked up this neon yellow one. Finally, Gap Outlet had this blazer at 30 percent off (but still a little more than I wanted to spend), and I nearly put it back but my mom decided to spoil her only daughter and buy it.

As much as I tell myself I'm going to stick to my list when shopping, and buy quality over quantity, the reality is I can't resist a good sale. What's your shopping style? Do you seek out sales too?

Spring Brights and Mom Thoughts

The little blogging vacation I took lasted a bit longer than I'd planned, sorry. I wish work were that flexible. "You know [boss] those couple days I took? Well, it turns out I felt like being gone a little longer than that. Oops!" If anyone has a job like that, do share. And send me an application.

Actually, my new job is going pretty well, and most days I enjoy it. However, it's always after a few days off (or even just a weekend) that I wish and wonder about being a stay-at-home mom. It's not something that's financially feasible for us right now, but I think if it were I would at least give it a try. We're very fortunate to have wonderful child care, and I know that Jona is in excellent hands when while Aaron and I are working. However, my pre-child self couldn't have imagined how much I miss that kiddo during the day! Weekends go by too fast, and I feel like evenings are too short (especially when bed time is before 7:00). Just like I'm sure there are days when stay-at-home-moms look at working moms with envy, this working mom thinks the grass is looking pretty green over on their side.

What are your thoughts on working vs staying at home with your kids (or future kids)?

Mint with a Maxi

Anne from In Residence is hosting a "Currently" link-up today, so I thought I would join in the fun. Here's what I'm up to right now:

Reading: One Fifth Avenue by Candace Bushnell. Every once in a while, you need a little chick lit in your life, don't you think?

Eating: a late Cinco de Mayo dinner. Tomorrow night I'm going to make Pioneer Woman's Tequila Lime Chicken, along with rice and beans. I've never made her version before, but she's never done me wrong before!

Wearing: new clothes. I've had fun trying out some recent birthday-money purchases lately (like this dress).

Anticipating: my mom's visit, which is this afternoon! I can't wait to see her, and neither can Jona.

Enjoying: Jona's age right now. I think I say "this stage is the best" at every stage he's gone though (except maybe the first month...that was a little rough), but 8 months is such a fun age! He loves to babble, smile, laugh, and clap his hands. Oh, and eat! He's such a great eater too. As much as his parents love to eat, was there really any doubt?

What are you up to now?

I may take a bit of a break while my mom is here, so if you don't hear from me again this week, that's why. I'll be back next week though!

Did you watch the Kentucky Derby on Saturday? All two minutes of it? A friend's parents host a Derby party every year, and this year Jona got to attend his first one. Let's see, Jona in a hat his crazy mom made him wear (again!), surrounded by lots and lots of people he's never seen before. Yeah, there was a lot of crying at the Derby party. And my dang horse lost! But I had a delicious piece of Derby Pie, and then everything was right with the world again.

It was a weekend of firsts for Jona. He also attended his first Kansas City Royals game yesterday. He even got a little certificate marking his official first day at the stadium, isn't that cute? The total ass-kicking the Royals received from the Tigers, however, was not very cute. Oh well.

What did you do this weekend?

I don't know about you, but I sure am glad it's Friday. Here are a few things that are making me smile right now:

- Birthday money shopping trips

- A high of 70 today after a gloomy, chilly week

- Jona in these yellow pants

- White wine

- Royals baseball (well, sometimes it makes me smile)

- My mom coming to visit next week

What are you smiling about right now? Have a great weekend!
