December Roundup: What I Wore, Read, and Bought

Happy New Year! I love starting a new year; it’s a fresh start with so many possibilities. Before I talk about what’s to come, I thought I’d round up what happened in December.

What I wore

What I read:

Bringing up Bébé by Pamela Druckerman: I read this because several people I know read it and liked it. The author is an American journalist who lives in Paris and eventually has a family there. Even before she has children of her own, she notices a marked difference between the norms of French and American child rearing. So much of what she learned about French parenting seems like common sense, but it was interesting to read and compare to what’s expected of parents in American culture. This is a book I’d love to read again once I have my own child so I can see if my thoughts about it (such as wanting to adopt the majority of the practices described) change.

An American Tragedy by Theodore Dreiser: This book took me the majority of the month to read. At nearly a thousand pages, it was a slow, heavy read; however, despite its lack of a fast pace, I did enjoy the story. It chronicles the life of Clyde Griffiths, although it isn’t your typical coming of age story. Instead, it tells how a seemingly ordinary young man from humble beginnings can be capable of committing murder. The bulk of the novel focuses on Clyde’s life leading up to the crime rather than the crime itself. Although it was very well written, I never got attached to any of the characters and therefore had a hard time getting through it.

What I bought/got:

wallet from Kate Spade // plaid shirt from J.Crew // Target sequin flats (Christmas gift) // Megan E Sass handmade cowl (Christmas gift)

Are you ready to say goodbye to 2012?
