Good Reads: Unaccustomed Earth

It turns out that using a book cover as outfit inspiration makes getting dressed pretty fun. Is it sad that I started thinking about an outfit when I first started reading it? Hmm, I love the mixture of these shades of blue, and I’ll definitely need to add a red accent to match the lettering…

Sweater: Gap Outlet; jeans: Loft; scarf: World Market; belt: Loft; wedges: Merona, Target

You’ll be glad to know that I also enjoyed reading the book: Unaccustomed Earth by Jhumpa Lahiri. It’s a collection of short stories, which I like to read every once in a while. Short stories are especially nice when I don’t have a lot of time to read, which seems to be more often than I’d like.

While there’s no obvious theme linking all the stories, Unaccustomed Earth is a cohesive, beautifully written work. My favorite story was the last, about Hema and Kaushik, who meet at a young age. Lahiri tells the story of their lives as individuals, and then the story of how their lives intersect once again much later.

Do you like reading short stories? Are there any that you’d recommend?
